Little Fiat 500 droptop echoes 1950s

For those who ever dreamed of driving a convertible in the '50s, along comes Fiat with its own version of what a mid-century Fiat 500 must have felt like.

Fiat is introducing the convertible version of the 1957 edition 500. The droptopp follows the nostalgic-driven Fiat hardtop inspired by the '57 Fiat that it started selling last year. The cars are meant to be a throwback to the cute little Italian car that was the inspiration of the brand, the Cinquecento.

"We continue to expand the Fiat lineup," said Jason Stoicevich, head of Fiat brand in North America, in a statement. "The Fiat 500 1957 Edition celebrates the spirit of the original 1957 Nuova 500, and with the arrival of a cabrio version, we are adding open-air fun to the iconic Italian-designed Fiat 500 1957 Edition."

It won't exactly come at a 1950s price, but at least it's cheaper than a lot of other cars out there.

The limited-production cabrio starts at $24,700 without delivery charges. Orders have began for delivery later this spring.
