IBM joins with French automaker for connected cars

Add IBM to the list of tech companies making a serious play for parts of the emerging connected-car business.

IBM announces today that it is hooking up with France's PSA Peugeot Citroën to analyze data to deliver new services from connected vehicles. It will perform functions like warning of road work ahead, changes in drivers' routes or congested highways.

"In partnership with IBM, we are unleashing connected services to the masses, so consumers can experience a new level of comfort and convenience from their cars, while industries seize new opportunities to deliver personalized services," says Brigitte Courtehoux of PSA Peugeot Citroën.

IBM sees connected cars as a huge growth opportunity. It says their numbers are expected to grow fast through 2020.
