Buy an Audi, get free shoes

It's probably not the best reason to buy a new luxury car, but hey, free is free.

Audi is giving away a pair of shoes with the purchase of any new car this summer. And not just any shoe: It's a limited edition from shoemaker Toms.

Strange as the promotion may seem, it's fora good cause: Toms will donate 55,000 pairs of shoes to needy children, and Audi is fitting the giveaway into its summer promotion. The offer is good through Aug. 4.

"Through Toms One-for-One giving program, Audi will help change the lives of thousands of children in the United States and empower new customers to be a part of this movement," says Loren Angelo, director of marketing for Audi of America. "With Toms, we found a natural partnership."

In case you're wondering, the shoe is described as a classic slip-on with gray canvas tops and red stitching. The Audi logo appears on the inner lining.

The shoe ballyhoo will be promoted through 30-second ads. The theme: Summer of Audi.
