Hyundai has priced the new Tucson crossover, one of its most important introductions because it comes in an especially hot segment..

The compact crossover is designed to have a more modern design and better handling, all at a starting price of $22,700 plus $895 shipping. The price is a bit higher than the outgoing model, but still comes in under competitor Honda CR-V, which is $745 more, or Toyota RAV4, which will be $990 more.

"The all-new Tucson hits the sweet spot of what consumers are looking for in a compact crossover with competitive pricing advantages at every trim level," says Scott Margason, director of product planning for Hyundai, in a statement.

The Tucson will be available in four trim levels: SE, Eco, Sport and the Limited.

The SE is the cheapest model, while the Eco is the turbo model offering more power and better fuel economy. The idea is that drivers will feel sportier in the Sport model, and more luxurious in the Limited edition.

The bottom SE grade comes with a 2-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Tucson Eco, Sport and Limited editions are all equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and seven-speed EcoShift dual clutch transmission. Starting prices range from $24,150 for the Eco up to $31,300 for the Limited.

The crossover is set to roll into dealers later this July.
