Kia Souls recalled due to steering that can fail
It's every driver's worst nightmare: The fear that steering could fail or the wheel come loose while on the road.
Well, a separation of steering gear is at the heart of a new recall from Kia. It's happening on the 2014 to 2015 Soul, the brand's fun and hot-selling small crossover.
The recall involves about 260,000 Souls.
Kia says the adhesive used to secure the steering pinion gear to the steering gear assembly may not be strong enough. If that connection fails, the pinion gear could separate from the steering gear assembly. Hence, no steering control and the possibility that it could lead to a crash.
There have been five cars brought in for warranty claims for the problem, but no accidents or injuries, Kia says in a filing to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
