Fiat Chrysler recalls 413,000 SUVs

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, under fire during the year for its safety recall practices, issued a pair of Christmas Eve recalls covering more than 413,000 vehicles.

In one, the automaker is recalling an 352,831 SUVs in the U.S. to check wiring for the lights on vanity mirrors. If they are serviced improperly, the wiring can overheat, which potentially could lead to fires.

In the other recall, Fiat Chrysler is recalling another 60,107 SUVs in the U.S. to fix a clamp that holds a low-pressure return hose.

In both, Fiat Chrysler says it is unaware of accidents or injuries due to the defects.

The vanity-mirror recall applies to 2011 and 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durango SUVs produced before Sept. 2, 2012. The issue will be fixed by resecuring the wiring in the vehicles' headliners with a new adhesive, the automaker says.

The clamp issue applies to 2015 Jeep Compass and Patriot SUVs.

The issue involves clamps that can be mispositioned, creating rapid loss of power steering fluid, Fiat Chrysler says. If the leaking fluid comes in contact with a hot surface, there's a potential fire hazard.
