Just Cool Cars: Loads of extras adorn '50 Chevrolet

IRWINDALE, Calif. -- Whether it is curb feelers or the fender skirts, it's the accessories that make Andy Braunstein's 1950 Chevrolet stand out.
"It has every accessory you could think of," says Braunstein, of West Covina, Calif., who was displaying the car here recently at the Irwindale Speedway.
Actually, it has a lot of accessories that you'd never think of. A hat rack, cigarette dispenser, a spotlight, spare tire on the rear and a primative air conditioner hanging off the side. There's even a snow deflector, which isn't terribly practical in the sunny climes of Southern California.
It's been a long process for Braunstein. He says he bought the car in 1991. "It was running and it was a shell," he says. So he started rebuilding the Styleline from there. He even painted it himself.
Today, the car is a something of a rolling museum piece, showcasing lots of the 1950s technology and excess that defined the era.
