GMC's All Terrain X pickup goes to war with Ford Raptor

GMC's answer to the Ford Raptor is a limited-edition off-road version of the Sierra pickup truck.

Taking design cues from past pickups with a sloping bar connecting the roof line with the edge of the truck bed, the 2016 GMC Sierra All Terrain X joins the growing mix of pickup trucks with luxury pricing and aggressive off-road styling and capability.

The vehicle will be offered as an edition of the four-wheel-drive Sierra 1500 crew cab and short-box models with SLT trim.

The pickup boasts General Motors' popular Z71 off-road suspension package with hill-descent control technology that prevents the vehicle from losing control on a steep incline.

It has Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT tires equipped to perform well in dirt, gravel and mud. The 18-by-8.5-inch black aluminum wheels and black mirrors, moldings and pillars give the Sierra All Terrain X an aggressive look.

The vehicle's 5.3-liter, 8-cylinder engine gets 365 horsepower.

The Sierra All Terrain X hits showrooms in the spring.

“Styling is the biggest influence on Sierra customers and the new Sierra All Terrain X builds on that with a more aggressive, personalized appearance that complements its exceptional capability,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC sales and marketing, in a statement. "It joins other models such as the new Sierra Elevation and premium Sierra Denali to offers more choices for finding the premium truck that matches customers’ style and capability needs."
