Just Cool Cars: This Shelby Mustang is king of the road

BEVERLY HILLS -- Among car enthusiasts, Stuart Siegel should be considered royalty.
He owns a 1968 Shelby GT500KR -- the KR stands for "King of the Road" -- a beefed-up, modified Ford Mustang from back when customizer Carroll Shelby was in his heyday.
The car was one of the more powerful of its time, thanks to its 428 Cobra Jet engine.
Though it sounds like it might have muscle-car impracticality, Siegel says it is a nice change from other classics that he has owned. Besides being fast, he says it's comfortable and has modern conveniences like power brakes and steering.
But on the day we talked to Siegel, of Hidden Hills, Calif., at the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance here, there were other considerations -- like heat. In 100-degree heat, he was sure that engine would overheat. He wasn't deterred.
"I love the car. It's very driveable," he says.
