REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- Maybe it's the car's futuristic looks. Maybe it's the Beechwood Brown metallic paint.

In any case, the 1960 Ford Thunderbird that Larry Jasmin of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., was showing here recently is one honey of a convertible. He's had it for about two years.

Jasmin had orginally gone looking for the more popular 1957 model but found it has "too many issues." The 1960 retains all the T-Bird appeal with a bit more sophistication.

Jasmin bought the car from a prominent San Diego restorer who had used it as a personal car. The four seats and convertible roof make it the perfect car for touring.

"When my relatives come to visit, we pile in and have a good time in the California sunshine," Jasmin says.

One bonus comes when he tries to park it. When he takes the T-Bird to a golf resort in the area and hands the keys over to a valet, the crew parks it right out front in the most prominent place with the likes of Ferraris and Lamborghinis. With 78,000 miles on the clicker, the T-Bird needed some work. But little by little, the issues are being addressed.

Jasmin says his goal is to get the car back to its original factory specifications.

"This car is a survivor," Jasmin says.
