Tesla creates 'mobile design studios' to lure customers

If customers won't go to Tesla stores, Tesla is going to come to them.

The electric-car maker announced Wednesday that it is creating a fleet of mobile design studios. The studios — Airstream trailers, actually — will pull up to locations around the country where customers can sit down with a desiger to outfit their ideal car.

Six Tesla Model X crossovers are being pressed into service to tow the iconic shiny silver trailers.

Tesla says the service is an attempt at "best-in-class customer service with the opportunity for customers to see Model X first-hand and design a Tesla of their own." The first will come to the 1 Hotel Central Park in New York on Wednesday.

Afraid the rig will pass up your town? Tesla says you can go to its website to request it to come to wherever you might be.
