Volkswagen Golf update includes 'gesture control'

Now you won't have to drive high-end luxury cars in order to be able to control your infotainment system with hand gestures.

Volkswagen has sharpened the looks of its Golf hatchback and made it more tech-savvy. That means bringing gesture control over to the infotainment system, a feature previously only found on high-end luxury cars like the BMW 7 Series.

Change radio stations? Just swipe your hand. It should be a germophobe's delight.

"All it takes is a swipe gesture to move the horizontally arranged menu items left or right, allowing the driver to scroll through the main menu, change radio stations, flip through the playlist or browse through the picture viewer and albums," Volkswagen says in a statement.

There's a little 'light flare' to show drivers which options can be operated by gesture control.

But for the most part, the cosmetic changes are subtle. There's a new chrome strip on the radiator, for instance. The LED headlights become standard. And the cooling vents embedded in the bumper are supposed to make the car look lower and wider.
