Mercedes-Benz shows new sweet, sexy new E-Class coupe

DETROIT -- Mercedes’ sleek new E-class coupe just made its debut at the North American International Auto Show here, showing a marked step up from its predecessor.

It's due to all-new architecture and electronics that it borrows largely from the E-class sedan. The hood is long and low, leading to a sharply raked windshield, frameless side mirrors and a very short rear deck. The 2018 model is 4.8 inches longer than its predecessor.

The E400 gets a twin-turbo 3-liter V-6 engine that produces 392 horsepower. It's combined with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Options include an adjustable air suspension, LED adaptive headlights, and the ability hold itself in a lane and follow behind another car at speeds up to 130 miles per hour.

"The new E-class coupe shows off an amazing design, " the company said during its North American International Auto Show press conference. "It's the next step in the evolution in Mercedes design language."
