Automakers draw inspiration from Star Wars
Auto designers take inspiration from everything they see around them — and they apparently have seen a lot of Star Wars movies.
When Ford designers were chiseling the look of the new 2018 Mustang, they say they wanted to add a dash of the evil scowl of Darth Vader to the front end.
“The team wanted to make the new model look more aggressive, and one place where we found inspiration was one of the most famous screenplay villains of all time,” said Melvin Betancourt, Ford Mustang Design Manager. “The angled nostrils and contours of Darth Vader’s mask became the inspiration for the Mustang’s new fog lamp scoops and front-end shape.”
Ford isn't the only automaker which has looked to Star Wars for a tie in.
Nissan created a Star Wars version of its Rogue that it was selling earlier this year. It was created to mark last summer's latest installment, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Longer ago in another galaxy far, far way, Dodge painted up a Charger to look like a storm trooper and ran it around Los Angeles so fans could get a ride or have their picture taken with it.
