How much will the third row in Lexus' RX SUV cost you?

Toyota's Lexus division has a created a three-row version of its popular RX hybrid crossover. So how much will that extra space for more passengers cost you?

About $5,000.

The 2018 RX 450hL will start at $51,615 including destination charge when it goes on sale this April, about $5,000 more than the two-row version of the 2018 RX 450h.

The RX 450hL gets power from a 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline engine and two electric motors that produce 308 combined horsepower. The hybrid features a continuously variable automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The non-hybrid version, the RX 350L, uses a 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 and an eight-speed automatic.

As for the non-hybrid, three-row RX 350L, the starting price will be $48,665 with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available for an additional $1,400.

Standard features on the hybrid include leather-trimmed seats, second-row captain's chairs; driver seat, side mirror and steering wheel memory; and the Lexus Enform Safety Connect and Service Connect free for the first 10 years of vehicle ownership.

Three-row hybrid competitors clock in a bit more the 450hL. The Acura MDX Sport Hybrid starts at $53,095 and the Volvo XC90 Hybrid at $65,945.
