Fiat Chrysler plans to show electric Jeep Wrangler, Compass and Renegade at CES 2020

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles plans to showcase an electrified Jeep Wrangler at CES 2020 next week in Las Vegas.

The Wrangler is one of three Jeep plug-in electric hybrids FCA says it will bring to the annual consumer electronics showcase, which runs Tuesday through Jan. 10. A Renegade and Compass are also on tap.

The company calls the three vehicles a first step in its plans to provide electrification options for all Jeep models by 2022, when it says it will have launched more than 30 electrified nameplates across all its brands. FCA says it will release more details on the plug-in Wrangler, Compass and Renegade at auto shows in Geneva, New York and Beijing.

Mike Manley, before his elevation to FCA CEO, announced plans for a plug-in Wrangler in 2017.

A plug-in Renegade and Compass made an appearance at the Geneva International Motor Show in March.

At that time, FCA said the two SUVs would have an electric range of about 30 miles. The electric motor paired with a 1.3-liter turbocharged gas engine would, in the case of the Renegade, provide 190 to 240 horsepower with acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in about seven seconds, the company said.

"Jeep electric vehicles will be the most efficient and responsible Jeep vehicles ever, providing absolute and quiet open-air freedom while taking performance, 4x4 capability and driver confidence to the next level. With greater torque and immediate engine response, Jeep electric vehicles will offer an even more fun-to-drive experience on the road, and more capability than ever off-road," FCA said in a news release about its CES plans.

The company said it will show off the Fiat Concept Centoventi (120 in Italian to symbolize the brand's 120-year history), a small city car designed to be hyper customizable, with an electric range from 60 to 300 miles. This will mark the North American debut for the concept, which made its first appearance in Geneva.

Other automakers will have a presence at CES. Ford will showcase technologies connected to the Mustang Mach-E "that give a glimpse into future innovations," and General Motors will show its in-vehicle Amazon Alexa voice service, which is slated for availability in the first half of the year.
