Tesla to pay Ukrainian employees called to defend country for three months, report says

Ukrainian Tesla employees who are conscripted to fight against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will continue to be paid for at least three months, CNBC reported. 

The move was confirmed in an email the company sent Monday to employees in its Europe, Middle East and Africa locations, according to CNBC. It was not immediately confirmed whether the policy also would apply to employees in North America and other parts of the world.

Tesla plans to review the policy and needs from Ukrainian employees in three months, CNBC reported.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy began calling up Ukrainian reservists last month. Many Ukrainian men ages 18 to 60 have been banned from leaving the country as Russia’s attack continues so they can help defend Ukraine.  

The email Monday from Tesla applauded employees for helping SpaceX bring Starlink satellite internet service to Ukraine by constructing lithium ion battery energy storage systems and more, CNBC reported. Starlink leverages satellites to provide broadband internet access.   

General Motors and other automakers have suspended business to Russia since its invasion of Ukraine.
