You can get a free Krispy Kreme doughnut on May 7 for Real ID deadline: Here's how
If you are stressed about having to get your REAL ID on May 7, Krispy Kreme might have something to help you take the edge off.
The doughnut chain announced last week it will give all guests one free Original Glazed doughnut all day in-shop or via drive-thru at participating shops on Wednesday, May 7. There is a limit of one per guest and no purchase, or ID, is necessary to get your free doughnut.
“The DMV can be stressful enough in normal times, but we know May 7 is going to be ‘next level’ stress for many Americans trying to get their REAL ID,” said Dave Skena, Chief Growth Officer of Krispy Kreme, in a news release.
“So, we’re going to keep this simple. Come by on May 7 and have a free Original Glazed doughnut on us, no REAL ID – or any ID – required,” Skena said in the release.
REAL ID deadline arrives after 20 years
The REAL ID deadline comes 20 years after the 2005 REAL ID Act passed amid other increasingly tight security measures following 9/11. The act established that Americans would need identification that met "minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards."
Actual implementation of the regulations ultimately took two decades, hitting several road bumps along the way. Now that enforcement is soon to begin, however, those who do not secure a compliant ID in time will soon be unable to enter federal facilities or board domestic flights.
Krispy Kreme unveils Mother's Day-inspired mini doughnut line
Krispy Kreme announced May 6 it is celebrating moms (and mom figures) with a new line of sweet and specialty treats ahead of Mother's Day.
The new collection, dubbed "Minis for Mom," features four new flavors that "pack a big message into a mini-doughnut."
All of the miniature desserts from Krispy Kreme's Minis for Mom collection, perfect for celebrating the light moms bring, are available for purchase from May 6 through Mother's Day on May 11.
"Our new minis are a fresh and sweet way to brighten the day for moms and other mother figures who bring so much joy to our lives – not just on Mother’s Day, but all week long," Skena said in a news release.
From fruity strawberry to decadent chocolate chip cookie flavored mini-doughnuts, the collection has something for everyone.
Here are the flavors featured in Krispy Kreme's "Minis for Mom" collection:
- Mini Strawberry Sunshine Doughnut: A miniature Original Glazed doughnut dipped in strawberry flavored icing, topped with yellow and orange icing drizzles and yellow vanilla flavored buttercreme.
- Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie Delight Doughnut: A miniature Original Glazed doughnut dipped in chocolate icing & chocolate chip cookie crumble, topped with cookie dough flavored buttercreme.
- Mini Chocolate Iced Yellow Heart Doughnut: A miniature Original Glazed doughnut dipped in chocolate icing and topped with a yellow icing heart.
- Mini Sparkly Vanilla Sunset Doughnut: A miniature Original Glazed doughnut dipped in yellow vanilla flavored icing and pink sanding sugar.
Krispy Kreme's "Minis for Mom" collection, available in 2-counts or a 16-count box, are available for purchase in-store or delivery through the Krispy Kreme app or website. Select grocery stores will also carry the collection.
