Five grocery stores are set to close in Oklahoma and Georgia.

Homeland Acquisition Corp. Inc. confirmed to The Oklahoman – a part of the Paste BN Network – that it will shut down four stores in its home state of Oklahoma. A store in Gordon, Georgia separately confirmed on its Facebook page that it will be closing.

Christin King, director of marketing and public relations for Homeland, told The Oklahoman the decision to close the stores was made based on "financial performance" and their "long-term potential."

"By closing these stores, we are able to focus on the greatest opportunities that strengthen other communities, grow communities and to really strengthen our organization by focusing resources in those areas," King told the newspaper.

The company operates 80 grocery stores in the South, using names such as Food World, Piggly Wiggly, Discount Foods, CashSaver, United Supermarkets and Homeland.

The stores will close on August 16, according to statements published on their respective Facebook pages. Oklahoma City ABC affiliate KOCO reported that the Oklahoma closures could leave 85 people losing their jobs.
