Massachusetts food manufacturer Hans Kissle has recalled some of its pasta salad products because they were mislabeled as potato salad and contain undeclared wheat, which may lead to allergic reactions.

Hans Kissle announced the recall, which includes 66 units, on Aug. 5, according to a notice posted on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s website.

The product in question, Tricolor Twist Pasta Salad, has the correct label on the front, the company said. However, the wrong label was added to the top of the container, making customers think they were buying Red Bliss Potato Salad.

"The actual product contains wheat, which is not declared on the top label," Hans Kissle wrote in the announcement. "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products."

There have been no illnesses or adverse reactions so far, the company said.

What states were the recalled products sold in?

Hans Kissle said the mislabeled pasta salad was sold at Stop and Shop locations in the following states:

  • Connecticut
  • Massachusetts
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Rhode Island

Some customers may still have the products in their refrigerators.

How do I know if I have the recalled products?

The product comes in a 16-ounce, clear plastic container with a white lid, marked with:

  • UPC Code 036217673706
  • Expiration date Aug. 20, 2025

"The clear container is labeled as Hans Kissle Tri Color Twist Pasta Salad and the top label declares the product as Hans Kissle Red Bliss Potato Salad," the company said.

What do I do if I have the recalled products?

Hans Kissle said some customers may still have the products in their refrigerators. Those who have it can return them to the store for a full refund.

Customers can also contact Hans Kissle at (978) 556-4500 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
