Mega Millions winning numbers for Dec. 31 drawing: Jackpot resets on New Year's Eve
The final Mega Millions drawing of the year sees a jackpot start building again as a ticket in Northern California had the numbers to claim a $1.22 billion prize in Friday's draw.
The player holding the ticket sold in Cottonwood, California can lay claim to the fifth largest jackpot in the game's history and the fourth jackpot won this year. Friday's win was the second jackpot north of $1 billion won this year after a player in New Jersey won $1.128 billion in March.
Tuesday's draw starts the jackpot at $20 million with a $9 million cash option.

The winning numbers from Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing are 13, 22, 27, 29, 35 with a gold Mega Ball of 1. The Megaplier was 2X.
