Dow aims for 9th straight day of gains

The streaky Dow is streaking higher.

The Dow Jones industrial average hasn’t had a losing day since July 7.

It has posted six consecutive record highs. The blue chip stock gauge is riding an eight-day winning streak, its longest  in more than four years.

The Dow, which has been melting up this summer  since the initial fears over Britain’s vote to exit the European faded, goes for its ninth consecutive day of gains Wednesday.

You have to go  back to a 10-session winning streak from March 1-14, 2013, to find a run as long as this one.

A solid earnings beat from Dow component Microsoft (MSFT) after the close of trading Tuesday could give the 30-stock index a lift heading into Wednesday’s trading session.

The Dow is benefiting from a move into so-called “quality” stocks by investors following the shock of the Brexit vote and the move lower in government bond yields around the globe in recent weeks.

Earnings beats Tuesday from Dow components Goldman Sachs (GS), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), IBM (IBM) and UnitedHealthcare (UNH) helped the index extend its best streak in years.

Visa (V), another Dow component, is set to report earnings Thursday.

A beat by the credit card processor could help the Dow keep its winning streak alive and continue to power a breakout after 14 months of trading sideways.
