U.S. stock markets are open on Monday despite it being Columbus Day while most government offices and many banks are closed in observance of the federal holiday.
The stock market doesn’t close on Columbus Day, which is observed in some states and cities as Indigenous Peoples' Day. But activity can be more volatile due to lower trading volume.
U.S. commodities markets, including gold and oil futures, are also open for trading on Monday, as well as foreign financial markets. Currency markets will also remain open for trading.
The U.S. bond market, however, is closed on Monday.
The next market holiday is Thanksgiving, which falls on Thursday, Nov. 25.
