Corn dog recipe

Corn dogs are readily available at the grocery store, but you can also make your own at home. When it comes to the batter, there are many different corn dog recipes, so use one that appeals to you most.

If you want to make your own corn dog batter:

  • Mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, oil and honey.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients, aiming for a thick and spongy consistency.
  • Put the batter in a tall cup or a mason jar for easy dog dipping.

You can use your favorite hot dog, hot links, or pre-cooked sausages in the corn dog. If you’re serving a larger crowd, consider cutting the hot dogs into bite-size pieces or using Vienna sausages for easy finger food. Skewer the meat with a toothpick and remove it before serving.

Use a sturdy skewer, like a candy apple stick, to skewer the hot dog. Dunk into the batter and give it a little stir, making sure it’s evenly covered and there aren’t any air bubbles in the batter.

In a tall pot, heat a neutral oil to 350ºF and try to maintain this temperature when frying the corn dogs. Put the corn dog in the oil and keep it moving until it’s an even dark brown color. It should take about three minutes per corn dog.

Chili cheese corn dog

The base of a chili cheese corn dog is entirely up to you. You can opt for a fresh, homemade corn dog or use a frozen, store-bought one.

Start by cooking the corn dog in your oven, air fryer or with your preferred method, following the instructions on the container. Once it’s reached your preferred temperature and crunch level, remove the stick from the full-sized corn dog and cut it open lengthways. Be careful not to cut it entirely in half.

Sprinkle cheese into the opening, then top with your favorite hot homemade or store-bought chili. Add some of your favorite toppings and condiments, like diced onions, jalapeños, or mustard. Now enjoy!

Make it bite-sized and layer the toppings on top of mini corn dogs.
