Thirty-One Gifts, direct sales company, to close by the end of 2024 after 21 years

Thirty-One Gifts announced that it will be closing by the end of the year.

In a Facebook post, the Thirty-One Gifts founder Cindy Monroe announced recently that the company will be closing after 21 years of operation.

“I shared with our internal team yesterday that we will close Thirty-One at the end of this year,” Monroe wrote in the post.

Since launching in 2003, Thirty-One Gifts primarily sells cute handbags, totes, and backpacks.

“I am so proud that our BAG story has been so much more than about the bag,” Monroe wrote. “I am proud that thousands of you are woven through our story, through MY story, and I wanted to Say THANK YOU!”

Company's goal was to uplift women

Although the company's main goal was to sell products, their mission was to support and empower women especially those seeking to open a small business.

“Meaningful relationships, the kind that give you a sense of belonging, community and sisterhood, are at the heart of what we do,” the company said on its website. “After all, they’re how we started! From a small loan from Cindy’s family to late nights in her basement monogramming products with the help of friends – it’s been about helping one another from the very beginning.”

On her personal Facebook page, Monroe thanked all her supporters for the kind messages and support they have shared as the company begins its transitional phase.

An upper-level leader for the company shared a heartfelt message as she broke the news

“I'm not crying today. Not! I'm sure I will at some point,” the TikTok user said in her post. “We just found out yesterday. It was just announced yesterday to the field all at one time. So, we all heard and we're shocked, devastated and it's — I'm not going to cry.”

A former consultant of the company shares some insight on what she thinks might happen to many current consultants at Thirty-One Gifts.

A lover of the Thirty-One Gifts bags is encouraging customers to rack up on the beloved accessories before the company closes officially.

“I'm not here to sell you anything. I'm just here to tell you that if you love these bags, get your bags now because they're going to be gone in December,” the user said in the post. "The whole business will be no longer. So, I'm super sad about that. That really, really sucks.”
