If you're already making a packing list for everything you'll need to return to campus, there's one must-have you won't even need to pack. Right now, Paramount+ is offering university students 25% off the price of an Essential monthly subscription to cover their streaming entertainment needs. Even better? Here’s the scoop: Students currently enrolled at an accredited, Title IV college or university can save 25% on the Essential plan. Normally $4.99 per month (or at a discount for committing to a year at $49.99), the student discount brings the monthly price down to just $3.74 per month. Over four years' time, that adds up to $60! To enjoy this four-year savings, you’ll need to verify your student status by providing proof of enrollment before signing up for a new subscription (note that the offer is not available to current subscribers).
The plan offers access to the full catalog of more than 30,000 shows and movies, including exclusives such as Star Trek: Picard and The Good Fight and fan-favorites, including RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars. Note that this option only includes select live TV, though (more options are available with the premium plan, not included with the student offer, which is $9.99 a month or $99.96 a year). The Essential plan also includes periodic ads, so if you really can’t stand ‘em, you’ll need to upgrade.
The service formerly known as CBS All Access relaunched in March 2021 as Paramount+, making it a more recent addition to an already-stacked lineup of streaming services. Paramount+ has since gotten attention for its impressively large content library of TV shows, movies and sports content from the likes of CBS, BET, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Pictures and more.
In our peek at Paramount+ ahead of its relaunch, we noted that the service offers a deep collection of past favorites series and original series, with live sports, family-friendly picks and more. In fact, it has all of the deep back catalog and originals that CBS All-Access offered, plus expanded originals and movie content, all for 16% less (or $1 a month), than the former $5.99 CBS All Access cost—and that's before the student discount.
If you’re not a student, but still want to test out Paramount+, you can enjoy a free seven-day trial before committing to a monthly or yearly subscription.
All that content for less than the cost of your morning latte is a pretty serious streaming win, especially if you’re working with a shoestring student budget. Make sure your streaming bases are covered at college and save at the same time—but don't wait too long, since back-to-school will be here before you know it.
