With it being summer vacation season, chances are you are either about to have an influx of guests or are planning to visit friends and family yourself. In this case, having a comfortable place to sleep for yourself or your visitors is vital. Quality air mattresses are a great solution when you offer guests a bed for the weekend or if your bed is temporarily unavailable.
While an inflatable mattress will never be as comfortable or supportive as a traditional bed, a good one should be comfortable enough to sleep on for a few nights. And, while you may associate air mattresses with a slow leak that leaves you on the floor by morning, good ones quickly inflate and keep you comfortably supported through the night.

Fortunately, we have tested several popular inflatable mattress brands to find the best ones that are worth your money. Here are the six best air mattresses available at Amazon.
1. SoundAsleep Dream Series
The SoundAsleep Dream Series is the best air mattress we have tested and stands out as the most comfortable and supportive option for most people. Aside from being incredibly comfortable, its coil system provides support and bounce, and the side lips add a level of edge support and motion isolation that is uncommon in inflatable mattresses. The mattress isn't just comfortable, it also features several convenient, user-friendly elements like a cord storage cubby and easy folding into a nylon drawstring sack. The only downside to this top-rated sleeper is that it can take a little longer than most to inflate and it’s pretty heavy when compared to the other mattresses on this list.
2. Coleman SupportRest Elite
The standout feature of the Coleman SupportRest Elite is its removable, washable quilted top, which enhances hygiene and adds a layer of warmth and comfort. As a bonus, the quilted top reduces rustling sounds and prevents bedding from shifting. In terms of comfort, the mattress offers a firm and stable sleep surface with no bulging or sagging. It also inflates quickly and has a convenient long cord, and the carrying case is practical and portable. However, It lacks a cord storage cubby, and extra care is needed when folding and storing the mattress with the quilted top.
3. King Koil Air Mattress with Built-in Pump
The queen-sized King Koil is generally comfortable, but it does tend to deflate noticeably during the night and isn't the best for edge support. The mattress has a raised top edge that acts as a built-in pillow which is convenient if you’re short on spare bedding. However, it can have the negative effect of pushing taller people down the bed, limiting where you can position yourself on the mattress.
4. EnerPlex 16" High Air Mattress with Built-in Pump
If the SoundAsleep is a bit out of your price range, then the EnerPlex 16" High Air Mattress should do the trick. The mattress offers a lot of comfort at a pretty reasonable price point. However, as is familiar with most air mattresses, it does tend to deflate slightly overnight. It’s not going to compete with the more expensive options on this list, but if you need a spare bed in a pinch, it’s a good option.
5. Insta-Bed 840017
Most air mattresses have an internal electric pump that allows you to inflate or deflate the bed in minutes. The Insta-Bed 840017 takes things a step further and features two pumps. The main pump inflates and deflates the mattress, while a smaller secondary pump monitors, adjusts and maintains the bed's pressure while you sleep. It’s a great idea, in theory. Unfortunately, however, in our tests, we noticed that the secondary pump does have a soft buzz while in use. If you’re a heavy sleeper or use earplugs, this shouldn’t be an issue, but it may be a deal breaker for light sleepers.
6. EZ Inflate Double High Luxury Twin Air Mattress
The EZ Inflate is another competitively priced option and should suffice for anyone needing a spare sleeping surface in an emergency. Our tester found the mattress to be pretty comfortable overall and relatively stable.
