The Short List: Michael Sam cut again; North Korea captive freed; Tesla's bad day
Michael Sam finds himself without an NFL team again
For the second time in two months, Michael Sam is out of a job. Did you even know he had one? The Dallas Cowboys waived the rookie end off their practice squad today and signed linebacker Troy Davis. Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team, was waived in the final round of cuts by the St. Louis Rams in August and was available for several days before the Cowboys picked him up. Here's the heartfelt message he sent after getting sacked.

New Ebola travel restrictions should only affect 9 travelers a day
Flying to the U.S. from an Ebola country in West Africa? You've now only got five choices on where to land. The Department of Homeland Security announced today that all travelers from Ebola outbreak countries in West Africa will be funneled through one of five U.S. airports with enhanced screening starting tomorrow. Passengers from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea can fly into New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare, New Jersey's Newark and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta international airports. The restrictions should affect only about nine travelers per day who would have arrived at other airports.

North Korea tells U.S. to pick up freed American dad ASAP
Jeffrey Fowle is coming home. Today the North Korean government released Fowle, one of three Americans the country was holding captive. The 56-year-old father of three from Ohio traveled to North Korea in April on a tourist visa but was detained after leaving a Bible at a nightclub. Gold star to Sweden for negotiating the release. (Sweden represents Americans' interests in North Korea because we have no diplomatic relationship with it.) North Korea said as a condition of the release, the U.S. had to pick Fowle up immediately. The Department of Defense jumped on it.
Michigan to Telsa: You're not welcome
Gov. Rick Snyder stuck it to Telsa today, signing a bill to discourage the company from selling its electric cars directly through company stores. General Motors urged Snyder to sign the bill. Snyder has said he's all about making Michigan more welcoming to entrepreneurs, but today he added Michigan to a growing number of states that have raised obstacles for the California-based electric car company. Tesla said what's good for GM's customers is not necessarily good for Tesla's customers. "Tesla is selling a new product with a new technology," the electric car maker said. "The evidence is overwhelming that a traditional dealer-based approach does not work for electric cars."
By 2060, there will be less than a 1-in-3 chance the next person you meet will share your race or ethnicity
Put away the mirror. For the first time ever, the next person you meet in this country — at work, in the library, at a coffee shop or a movie ticket line — will probably be of a different race or ethnic group than you. The USA is experiencing a "great wave" of immigration — call it a "second great wave." Cities and towns across the the country are rapidly becoming some of the most diverse places in America, an analysis of demographic data by Paste BN shows.
