The Short List: Swift misses CMAs; Pot's future; MLB pitcher dies

Taylor Swift is too pop for the CMAs

T. Swift is a hit maker. Her latest, 1989, brought in 1.287 million album sales in its first week, easily trouncing any artist this year. But with her new album, she lost something: her signature country twang. Now, she's pure pop, and one of her first orders of business is missing the Country Music Association Awards. She's nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year and, instead of attending the show, she's in Japan promoting her album.

America is getting more and more comfortable with legalized pot

Legalization in Alaska, Oregon and D.C.? Consider it puff, puff, passed. After those states and territories voted to make green legal – and Florida voted it down – it's left many asking what's next. Expect the legalization movement to continue to spread throughout the country, moving everywhere from California and Arizona to Massachusetts as early as 2016.

Former MLB pitcher dies in tragic accident

Former New York Yankee and Arizona Diamondback pitcher Brad Halsey, 33, has died in a recreational climbing accident near his New Braunfels, Texas, home. The Texas Sheriff's Office is investigating Halsey's death and won't release any information until the investigation is complete.

Baltimore cheerleader charged with raping 15-year-old boy

Yikes. An ex-Baltimore Ravens cheerleader has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy in Delaware over the Labor Day weekend. Molly Shattuck, 47, of Baltimore, was indicted Monday by a Sussex County grand jury on two counts of third-degree rape, four counts of unlawful sexual contact and three counts of providing alcohol to minors.
