5 things you need to know this weekend
The Players Championship comes to a close
After days of intense play, one of the PGA's most prestigious championships will come to a close. The final round of competition begins Sunday at approximately 8:30 a.m. ET. A winner will be crowned later that day. Will Tiger take back his 2013 title? Could fresh-faced Rory McIlroy or Jordan Spieth take it all home? Tune in to find out.
Liberia is finally Ebola free
Liberia plans to declare it is officially free of Ebola on Saturday, barring the unexpected discovery of a new case. The announcement would come more than a year after the outbreak of the worst Ebola epidemic in history, killing 4,716 in Liberia and infecting twice that number. The last confirmed Ebola patient in Liberia died March 27 and was buried the next day, according to the World Health Organization.
Russia celebrates a tense Victory Day
A landmark jubilee parade in Russia will honor the 70th anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe on Saturday. This year's is expected to be one of the biggest in Russian history — and one of its most tense. President Obama, newly re-elected British Prime Minister David Cameron and other Western leaders are snubbing the event because of Russia's incursion into eastern Ukraine and its annexation of Crimea last year. Around 25 others are still expected to attend — minus a late cancellation from North Korea's Kim Jong Un.
Prince hosts concert in Baltimore for Freddie Gray
The pop legend will play a concert in Baltimore on Sunday to promote peace following violent protests over the death of Freddie Gray. The concert is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and will feature special as-yet unannounced guests — and likely a new song recorded by Prince. Concert attendees are being asked to wear something gray.
Subtropical Storm Ana prepares to hit the U.S.
The first named storm of the 2015 hurricane season could make landfall this weekend. As of Friday at 2:00 p.m. ET, the storm had sustained winds of 45 mph and was located about 170 miles south-southeast of Myrtle Beach, S.C. It was stationary, meaning the storm was sitting there spinning without moving in any direction. The storm will bring rain, wind and rough surf to the Southeast coast through the weekend, AccuWeather predicted.
