5 things you need to know this weekend
1. Mayweather will fight his last match — so he says
Boxing’s champion Floyd Mayweather said he will fight his last fight Saturday against Andre Berto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This might be a one-sided clash before Mayweather retires again — he came out of a 21-month retirement in 2007 for a fight against Ricky Hatton. Mayweather faced a doping allegation after his match against Manny Pacquiao in May. But the boxer and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday that he didn’t commit an infraction when he took an intravenous infusion the day before his fight against Pacquiao.
2. iPhones pre-orders begin
Many were underwhelmed with Apple's unveil of its latest iPhones (6S and 6S Plus), but it's still the best iPhone yet. Pre-orders started Saturday at 12:01 a.m. PT. Customers can pre-order the iPhone through Apple’s website or online from the four major carriers: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. The phone goes on sale Sept. 25, and Apple introduced a payment plan option that nods to the demise of the two-year carrier contract. If you need to make room for the new iPhone, here's how to sell your old one.

3. ‘Mamma Mia!’ drops its final Broadway curtain
Broadway's dancing queen Mamma Mia! closes Saturday after a 14-year run that made it the eighth-longest running show. The frothy musical that uses songs from the band ABBA ran 5,765 performances, grossed more than $600 million and outlasted over 500 other Broadway productions. The musical also became a movie starring Meryl Streep. The feel-good show — featuring classic hits like Dancing Queen and S.O.S. — has been a hit in dozens of countries, including South Korea, Italy, Denmark, South Africa and Spain. The Phantom of the Opera, which debuted in 1988, is the longest-running show still on Broadway with 11,483 performances, according to Playbill.com.
4. ‘Miss America’ welcomes back Vanessa Williams
Three decades after she gave up the crown amid a nude photo scandal, Vanessa Williams is returning to the 95th Miss America pageant as head judge Sunday. The award-winning actress and singer was the first African-American Miss America in 1984, but resigned after Penthouse magazine published sexually explicit photographs of her. She joins celebrity judges Brett Eldredge, Taya Kyle, Danica McKellar, Kevin O'Leary, Amy Purdy and Zendaya. The new Miss America will take over for last year’s winner Kira Kazantsev from New York.
5. Fire-damaged Carnival cruise ship cleared to sail
The Carnival cruise ship that came to an abrupt end earlier this week after an engine fire will return to service Sunday. None of the 3,000-plus passengers were injured by the fire that erupted Monday morning while the ship was docked in St. Thomas. The ship returned to its home port of San Juan, Puerto Rico Friday morning and has been cleared to begin its next scheduled voyage on Sunday. This week's fire is the second in three months on a large cruise ship sailing in the Caribbean. In July, a fire broke out in July on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas ship as it sailed into Falmouth, Jamaica.
