The Short List: Mixed messages in the aftermath of Paris attacks; reliving Rousey's defeat; Bernie is on Snapchat
A lot of mixed messages emerge in aftermath of Paris attacks — including 'keep out'
It's the worst assault on Paris since World War II. As France mourns the 132 people killed in Friday's terrorist attacks and prays for the hundreds who were injured, a chilling Islamic State video warns of deadly consequences in the U.S. or any country that joins the French in their airstrikes against ISIL positions in Syria and Iraq. The threat of terrorism is very much alive, even though all of the Paris terrorists, except one, are believed to be dead. A manhunt is underway for Salah Abdeslam, and it expanded Monday into Belgium, which is also home to Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a 27-year-old Belgian named in media reports as the mastermind of the attacks and "one of the most active" ISIL executioners in Syria. Back here stateside, the CIA says it is working "feverishly" to ensure an attack doesn't happen, and President Obama said he's committed to destroying what he called 'the face of evil" — but without U.S. combat troops. And if all of this weren't complicated enough, at least 21 governors announced they were taking action to keep Syrian refugees out of their states for fear ISIL terrorists would make it in, too — even though they might not have the power to do so. And then Republicans in the House and Senate started working to block funding for Obama's plan to bring 10,000 Syrian refugees into the U.S. So much for the reminder from Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers: "We're a connected world."
ICYMI, but really how could you? Even our Grandma knows Ronda Rousey got beat — so, so bad
It was the knockout kick to the head that stunned the world — and defeated the seemingly unstoppable Ronda Rousey. Holly Holm shocked the entire planet — and Joe Rogan! — Saturday to become the UFC women’s bantamweight champion at UFC 193 in Melbourne — and everyone with a pulse has been weighing in since. As you might expect, Twitter exploded. UFC fighters Miesha Tate and Cyborg Justino did some gloating, as did Donald Trump, and MMA fans waited with bated breath to see what Floyd Mayweather would say. The pro boxer — who has sparred with Rousey in the press — kept it classy: "You win some and you lose some." Indeed. And there's a possibility that losing may have saved Rousey's career, and redemption may not be too far away. An immediate rematch is essentially guaranteed — even though some folks don't think Rousey deserves it. Until then, we'll see if Rousey disappears and relive Holm's amazing victory in the highlights.

Bernie Sanders joins 'Snapshot' — and we want to join, too!
We also want to be on Fleek. Can we get an invite? LOLZ. J/k. The Democratic presidential hopeful is on Snapchat, but one of his tweets Monday morning indicated he was a little confused in the new digital territory. Obvs, the platform adds to his already-strong digital presence: Sanders is no newbie to social media. He's used Twitter for live-tweeting to his 871,000 followers during Republican debates, and he's also long been on Reddit, doing three AMAs since 2013 and writing an occasional post, so it'll be interesting to see what he does on Snap. Oh, btw: He's not adding friends yet, so don't feel bad if you snap him back and get the dreaded "pending."
Survey says! Pay up — or get sued, Steve Harvey!
Family Feud host and media do-it-all Steve Harvey is being sued. Business Aircraft Leasing alleges Harvey owes about $200,000 on a $400,000 customization of a Gulfstream jet that he “orally promised” to lease for $97,000 a month. The Nashville company hired a Florida company, Private Sky Aviation, to do the work, which included altering the plane from 16 to 14 seats and other fancy customizations. Harvey paid about half before saying he did not want to lease the aircraft, according to the federal lawsuit. The company asks that sum to be determined at trial.
Your kids' Santa visit could have you sayin' no, no, no to ho, ho, ho
Santa Claus is coming to town — and if you wanted to see him at the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey, you'd better be ready to shell out some dough, dough, dough. Hanging out with Santa had a $35 starting price tag. (That's starting, people!) But the kiddos don't just get to sit with Santa — there's an EXPERIENCE to be had. The Adventure to Santa EXPERIENCE takes families on a 4D virtual sleigh ride to the North Pole with Shrek and friends. The website promises an immersive EXPERIENCE, so surely the 15- to 17-minute journey would have been worth every cent. (It should go without saying that reservations are recommended.) But then there was a backlash. And right before we were going to publish this column, the mall issued a statement saying it wanted to keep the holiday season "festive and bright," so it had "decided to remove the photo package purchase requirements." Way to stay on the Nice List!
