The Short List: R.I.P., Diesel the police dog; sweet rides at L.A. Auto Show; whole world wants Patti LaBelle pies

Merci beaucoup, Diesel

#JeSuisChien. "I am dog." It was a simple hashtag that echoed #JeSuisCharlie used after the January terrorist attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. This time, we went to Twitter to honor and mourn Diesel, a 7-year-old police dog killed Wednesday in a police raid targeting the mastermind of last week's horrifying attacks. After hours of periodic gunfire and explosions around Saint-Denis, a Paris suburb, eight suspects were arrested and two were dead. At least five police officers were injured. And Diesel, one of their own, was killed, a hero who died serving his country. Rest in peace, Diesel.

So many snazzy cars at the L.A. Auto Show

The Los Angeles Auto Show is the first big car show of the season, and car makers are in the mood to have a little fun. (For example, a bunch of models in racing suits introduced Alfa Romeo Giulia in hopes that the splashy entrance will help make an imprint with high-end luxury buyers.)  Here's what else is popping.2017 Fiat 124 Spider. It's a thoroughly modern interpretation of a classic, affordable Italian roadster. 2016 Honda Civic Coupe. It's sportier! Hooray. 2017 Jaguar XE. The updated version of Jaguar's compact sports sedan unveiled in L.A. offers a fresh design at a nice price. Swipe through more scenes from the show floor here.

Now that Jindal is out, Trump thinks he's a 'nice guy'

Maybe Donald Trump and Bobby Jindal can be (almost) friends now that the Louisiana governor has decided to exit the GOP presidential race. “He was a little nasty with me, but I think ultimately was very nice and he tried. He tried very hard,” Trump said on Fox & Friends. Kind words given how Jindal went after him as “shallow,” “a narcissist” and “an egomaniac" during the campaign. ICYMI, Jindal dropped out Tuesday night. Also in election news today: Jeb Bush, who had a big speech at the Citadel on Wednesday, tells Paste BN he's no political insider. And if you're curious about Democratic socialism, Bernie Sanders says he's going to explain it. Keep up on who's up/down in the polls with our nifty Poll Tracker.

If you're hoping for a Patti LaBelle pie for Thanksgiving, you may be out of luck

Thanks to one viral video, Patti LaBelle sweet potato pies, which are sold exclusively at Walmart, are basically sold out. On Walmart.com, searches for the pie are second only to turkey searches. So if you want pie, you might just have to Stir it Up yourself. Back up and explain. James Wright made a video of his pie-testing experience and posted it to Facebook. He liked it so much, he broke into song. The hilarious singing taste-testing video has millions and millions of views. LaBelle posted Wright's review video on her own Facebook page, saying "Thanks for the review!" LaBelle even called Wright to thank him.

Games are over, and Katniss Everdeen really means business now

Goodbyes are so hard, and we're not eager to bid farewell to Katniss and crew. But we understand. After surviving two battle-to-the-death films and one movie mostly about making propaganda material, Jennifer Lawrence’s ace archer has gotta be tired. But she's amazing, so we're sure she'll kick ass in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 (**½ out of four; rated PG-13).  Our sources say it has the best action sequences of all four chapters, but its revolutionary message gets bogged down by a meandering plot and some good old-fashioned overacting. Whatever. We're still dying to see it. It opens Friday nationwide.
