The man accused of a shooting rampage at a Planned Parenthood clinic faces a judge Monday. Robert Lewis Dear, 57, is being held without bond at the El Paso Criminal Justice Center. He has not yet been charged, and search warrants and other court records have been sealed. Authorities say Dear entered the clinic Friday, shooting at officers and bystanders for nearly five hours before surrendering shortly after SWAT teams crashed armored vehicles into the lobby. The shooting killed three people and injured at least nine others.

Trial begins for first officer charged in Freddie Gray's death

The high-profile trial of Baltimore police officer William Porter begins Monday after a delay. Porter is the first of six Baltimore police officers to be tried for their involvement in the death of Freddie Gray, a black man who died in police custody in April; Gray's death sparked protests and riots in Baltimore. Porter is charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment and assault. Prosecutors have said he will be a key witness in the 2016 trials of the other officers.

Climate talks commence in Paris

High-level negotiations on an international agreement to fight global warming begin Monday outside Paris. The main goal: Representatives from 196 nations, including President Obama and China's President Xi Jinping, hope to produce a legally binding plan to keep global temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) from pre-industrial levels. About 2,800 French police are guarding the Le Bourget conference center 7 miles north of central Paris during the 12-day conference.

Chicago officer set to have second hearing

Chicago officer Jason Van Dyke, who has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, is set to have a second hearing on Monday. Van Dyke is currently being held without bail. A judge will factor the dashcam video of Van Dyke shooting McDonald 16 times into whether the officer should be granted bail. Last week's release of the graphic video's release triggered protests in the Chicago streets.
