Woman stabbed while visiting Fla. nudist colony

An unidentified 18-year-old woman who made a late-night bicycle stop at a Florida nudist colony was hospitalized early Sunday with stab wounds, police said.

Speaking from a hospital, the woman told the manager of the facility that her wounds were not severe. Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Therese Barbera told The Associated Press that the wounds were not life-threatening.

"We're very happy that she's O.K.," Morley Schloss, manager of Sunsport Gardens in Loxahatchee Groves, Fla., toldThe Palm Beach Post. "I've been living here for 17 years and we've never had anything like this."

The woman, traveling by bicycle from Georgia to the Florida Keys, arrived by bicycle late Saturday, The Post reported. Thinking she had found a campground, she was pleased to find out she had stumbled upon a nudist resort, Schloss said. She enjoyed dancing to music played by a live band Saturday night.

While exploring the resort's 40 acres Sunday morning, the woman went out on a nature trail. A person she described as "young" confronted and stabbed her about 9:30 a.m., Schloss said.

There were no witnesses and it was unknown whether the assailant lived at the resort.

When the woman emerged walking from the trail, two Sunsport guests saw her and called for help, Schloss said. Authorities flew her to a nearby hospital, while dogs aided by a sheriff's helicopter searched the area.

The woman was hospitalized and was expected to be released Monday.

The resort, about 60 miles north of Miami, is partially surrounded by densely wooded areas.

"It's a peaceful, quiet, family-oriented place," Schloss said. "We've never had anything like this. We don't have a bar, we don't have intoxication here. It's a complete aberration."
