Holiday miracle! Kid's home finds $50K in nativity
The baby Jesus in the nativity at The Children’s Home held more than just holiday joy: a $50,000 check for the charity in Amarillo, Texas.
A receptionist found the donation Wednesday in an envelope beneath the replica of Jesus. The check came from a man who wished to remain anonymous, but who said he was inspired by the children, according to The Associated Press.
“We had a generous gift given to us last evening,” the home posted on its Facebook page, with a picture of the nativity scene. “A special thank you to the donor for this gift. Happy Holidays!”
The home, which provides shelter for at-risk children, receives 75% of its funding from donations and 25% from the state of Texas, according to KAMR television.
"There's a huge cost that goes with trying to provide the opportunity for kids that we do, and so that helps us be able to focus on kids and not focus on being worried about being able to do that for kids," Darrin Murphy, the home’s president, told the station.
