Three Baltimore police officers suspended in assault

Three Baltimore police officers were suspended Thursday in connection with an assault on a juvenile that took place exactly one year ago to the day, the Baltimore Police Department announced.

Two officers were indicted and one received a criminal summons in relation to the incident at Sinai Hospital, police said.

"Criminal misconduct by police officers is an insult to the good and noble work our officers do every hour of every day," Kevin Davis, police commissioner, said.

Officer Duane Williams Jr., a seven-year department veteran and one of the indicted, was charged with second-degree child abuse, second degree assault and misconduct, the department said.

Lonnie White Jr., a two-year veteran who also was indicted, was charged with perjury and misconduct.

Bijay Ranabhat, also a two-year veteran, was charged with misconduct.

All are suspended without pay, the department said.

Thursday's actions came about as the result of an internal department investigation.
