If you're one of the more than 50 million people who suffers from seasonal allergies (figure courtesy of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), every day can seem like an explosion of pollen.
It’s an epic battle against the environment, and it often ends in tears.
Here we break down what it looks like to be an allergy sufferer. It’s not pretty. But sometimes, it’s kind of amusing...
1. Wake up, flush sinuses with a Neti pot. Pretend your nose is a waterfall.
2. Take a prescription-strength antihistamine. Sniff a nasal spray that has plenty of steroids.
3. Summon the energy to go to work.
4. Halfway through the day, use eyedrops to flush out pollen, run to the doctor for an allergy shot and fork over a horrifying number of dollars to the receptionist.
5. Desperately try not to take a nap at work.
6. Practice ritual of drinking apple cider and raw honey three times a day. Because the internet says it’s supposed to help.
7. Go to soccer practice after work. Because why not maximize exposure to allergens?
8. Go home, take off clothes and avoid the urge to douse them in kerosene and set them on fire.
9. Wash face to remove a delicate coating of environmental allergens. Take vitamins and probiotics to boost immune system.
10. Turn humidifier on full blast and hope for much-needed sleep. Get ready to repeat.
