Emergency landing delays flights at Philadelphia airport

Flight delays at Philadelphia's airport persisted Friday morning, after the emergency landing of an American Eagle flight from Richmond, Va.

Flight 4801, operated by Piedmont Airlines, landed safely at 8:15 a.m. after the pilot reported smoke in the cabin, said Ross Feinstein, an American spokesman. The Embraer E145 had 50 passengers and four crew members.

"All passengers and crew were evacuated shortly after landing," Feinstein said. "One passenger was evaluated by medical personnel and released at the airport."

The airline is taking care of passengers and crew, and finding connecting flights for them, if necessary.

By 10 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said departing flights were holding up to 90 minutes at their gates and the waits were increasing. Arrival delays were less than 15 minutes at that point, FAA said.
