5 things you need to know Wednesday

Cleveland to hold Cavaliers victory parade

Cleveland will celebrate its first professional sports championship in 52 years with a victory parade and rally for the Cavaliers on Wednesday. The parade will start at 11 a.m. ET near Quicken Loans Arena and travel throughout downtown before ending near the Cleveland Convention Center, followed by a rally.  The Cavaliers on Sunday finished a thrilling NBA Finals with a victory over the Golden State Warriors in the series-deciding seventh game, their third straight win after falling behind 3-1 in the series. It clinched the city of Cleveland’s first sports championship since 1964 when the Browns won the NFL title.

Trump to speak on campaign direction

Donald Trump will discuss the new direction of his campaign in a speech Wednesday after Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton said his economic policies “would throw us back into recession” Tuesday. The GOP nominee plans to include an attack on Clinton and former president Bill Clinton, claiming they profited off their public service. After firing his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski earlier this week, Trump said that his campaign needed to be reoriented toward facing off against Clinton in the fall. Trump originally planned to speak out against Clinton last week, but instead made remarks on the Orlando terrorist attack.

Americans spend billions on non-conventional health care

A study released by the National Center for Health Statistics on Wednesday says Americans spend $30.2 billion out-of-pocket on complementary health care each year. One in five Americans shells out money for some type of alternative health care approach, such as acupuncture, yoga, chiropractic manipulation, hypnosis or naturopathy, according to the study. While these expenditures only equate to 1% of total healthcare spending in the U.S., they represent a substantial part of out-of-pocket health care costs and are comparable to payments for conventional doctor's visits and prescription drug use.

Spaceship full of trash plunges to Earth Wednesday

A trash drop-off for the ages is scheduled for Wednesday morning. A robotic spaceship filled with two tons of junk is expected to dive into the Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrate around 9:20 a.m. ET. The ship delivered food and supplies to the International Space Station in March, and it’s now stuffed with 4,000 pounds of garbage. Scientists will watch closely as it heads to its doom, thanks to technology on the ship that transmits data to the researchers until the ship’s final moments. That data will help engineers design rockets that return safely from space.

‘The Boston Sports Guy’ makes his highly anticipated HBO debut

Brash, controversial but always unapologetic, Bill Simmons returns as his HBO talk show, Any Given Wednesday, premieres on the cable network Wednesday (10 p.m. ET). The Grantland creator, who launched the 30 for 30 documentary series, had an acrimonious split with ESPN in May 2015 after 14 years with the company  when he famously called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a liar. Simmons wants to launch a show that's "smart and sophisticated" and addresses topics about sports, pop culture and tech. Wednesday’s first guests include fellow actor and Boston fan Ben Affleck and NBA commentator Charles Barkley, who will recap the exhilarating seven-game NBA Finals.
