A male burglary suspect died at a hospital in New York on Monday night after being shot by police, the New York City Police Department confirmed during a press conference at the scene.
Police were responding to a call in Brooklyn regarding a burglary in progress at an apartment when a sergeant encountered a male suspect who had just scaled a fence, police said.
The suspect pointed a gun at the sergeant and the sergeant and another officer fired, hitting the suspect twice, police said.
The suspect later died at a hospital in Coney Island, according to police.
Police said they believe a second suspect fled before they arrived and is at large.
A revolver was recovered at the scene, police said.
