5 things you need to know Friday
France reeling after truck slams into Bastille Day revelers in Nice
There are more questions than answers Friday after a truck slammed into a crowd of revelers in the French tourist town, killing at least 84 people and injuring 50 others. France was weeks away from ending its state of emergency, which was put in place after the Nov. 13 terror attack in Paris that killed 130 people, but it has been extended by three months. French President Francois Hollande condemned the attack early Friday, saying "France as a whole is under threat of Islamic terrorism," and announced he would put 10,000 soldiers on patrol to help police, particularly at French borders. Hollande called for a defense council meeting later in the day, bringing together defense and other key ministers, before heading to Nice.
Funeral for Alton Sterling held in Baton Rouge
Civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton is among those who will speak at a public funeral for Alton Sterling on Friday morning. The funeral will be held at Southern University’s F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge, La. Sterling, 37, died at the hands of two Baton Rouge police officers outside a convenience store last week. His death, along with the police killing of Philando Castile in St. Paul, Minn., has sparked a national debate about police brutality and triggered nationwide protests.
Trump's running mate contest goes into overtime
Friday was supposed to be the day Donald Trump unveiled his pick for running mate — reportedly Indiana Gov. Mike Pence. But Thursday evening, the presumptive Republican nominee postponed the announcement, citing the deadly attack in Nice, France. So Friday likely will bring more media focus on Pence and maybe a chance for Trump to change his mind. He told Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren on Thursday, "I haven't made my final, final decision." Part of Pence's fate will be known by noon Friday — that's the deadline he faces for filing for re-election in Indiana.

Apparently, men hate it, but 'Ghostbusters' gets 3 stars from us
After months of online posturing over the parts originally brought to life by four funny men in the 1984 classic, Ghostbusters, moviegoers now have the chance to decide for themselves about the reboot. The new Ghostbusters, with an all-female cast — Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones — opens Friday. Apparently, men already hate it, but we don't. Paste BN movie critic Brian Truitt calls it "a worthy chapter in the franchise and more than makes up for that poorly executed 1989 sequel we'd all like to forget."

'Small and private' funeral for Jo Cox
A funeral for Jo Cox, the Labour member of the British Parliament who was killed last month, will be held Friday in her constituency in northern England. The service will be a “very small and private affair,” her family said in a statement, but the cortege will stop at two locations to give community members an opportunity to pay their respects. Cox, 41, was shot and stabbed after she met with constituents, and the news of her death shook the UK. Cox, a mother of two, is remembered for her commitment to the Parliament and her work with development charities.
