Isaiah Washington urges African Americans to #StayHome
On Monday, actor Isaiah Washington wants every single African American to boycott work and #StayHomeSeptember262016. "No work. No school. No shopping for 24 hours," the former Grey's Anatomy star wrote on Facebook. "Imagine if every single African American in the United States that was really fed up with being angry, sad and disgusted, would pick ONE DAY to simply 'stay at home' from every single job, work site, sports arena and government office in the United States of America. I'm very sure that within 72 hours from Wall Street to the NFL...Black Lives Would Matter. September 26, 2016 is THE DAY.” In his post, Washington used hashtags #RIPTerenceCrutcher #HandsUpDontShoot, referring to the fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher, 40, was shot and killed by Tulsa police on Sept. 16. after his SUV stalled on the road.
Clinton, Trump face off for round one of the debates
It’s time for the matchup we’ve all been waiting for. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will meet on the debate stage for the first time Monday night at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Trump whose primary debate tactics consisted of insulting his opponents and playing to the audience, will face a seasoned debate veteran in Clinton, who is preparing for anything Trump throws her way. As the week leading up to the debate was filled with tension and violent protests after police-involved shootings in Tulsa and Charlotte, racial issues have dominated the two candidates’ campaign trails and is sure to come up Monday. NBC’s Lester Holt will moderate the political showdown which airs on all major networks at 9 p.m. ET.

Washington mall shooting suspect due in court
The suspect in the deadly Burlington, Wash., mall shooting Friday that left five people dead is due in court on Monday. Arcan Cetin, 20, of Oak Harbor, faces five counts of first-degree murder in the Cascade Mall shooting, according to jail records. Island County sheriff's deputies arrested him Saturday night near their Oak Harbor office, ending a 20-plus-hour manhunt. The motive remains unclear, but Cetin's girlfriend used to work at the Macy's where the shooting occurred. No evidence suggests the attack was terror-related, a Seattle FBI agent said.
Mourning Jose Fernandez, Marlins resume schedule
Three years ago, Miami Marlins' Jose Fernandez made his Major League Baseball debut against the New York Mets. The Marlins will play the Mets on Monday in Miami, this time without their ace pitcher after the 24-year-old Cuban-born athlete was killed early Sunday in a boat accident. Known for his vibrant personality and impressive pitch repertoire, Fernandez was considered the backbone of the Marlins' pitching staff, posting a 2.86 earned-run average. He struck out at least 11 batters in nine of his 29 starts this season. The final start of his career, his Wednesday night game against the Washington Nationals, may have been his greatest. Fernandez shut out the Nationals over eight innings, striking out 12 in a 1-0 victory. Fernandez had announced last week he and his girlfriend were expecting their first child.
Smile this morning — McDonald’s is testing out a Happy Meal breakfast offering
Breakfast is getting a little bit happier. McDonald’s begins testing a breakfast Happy Meal at 73 locations in the Tulsa area on Monday. Customers will have the choice between two McGriddles or a new Egg & Cheese McMuffin without Canadian bacon as well as two sides. If the roll-out is successful, the offering could be available nationally next year. The new breakfast deal would mark the first major change to the Happy Meal in more than three decades.
