52 years of hostilities in Colombia could end with public vote on FARC deal
Colombian voters on Sunday will decide whether to approve or reject a historic deal with rebel leaders that would end the longest-running armed conflict in the Western Hemisphere. The Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC, have been fighting for five decades, leaving more than 220,000 Colombians dead and 6.7 million displaced. A peace accord was signed Monday after rounds and rounds of negotiations. The votes of 1 million Colombians living in the United States could be crucial.
High Holy Days begin for Jews
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year , begins Sunday at sundown with the blowing of the shofar (a ram's horn) and is followed 10 days later by Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) on Oct. 12. Live from New York, 'SNL' is back!
NBC’s late-night institution Saturday Night Live will return this weekend for its 42nd season. Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie will host the premiere with musical guest The Weeknd. Arriving just days after the first presidential debate, the show unveiled a new Donald Trump this week in Alec Baldwin, who will play the role alongside his counterpart and Emmy winner Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton. New Colorado pot rules aim to avoid confusion with labels
If you live in Colorado, you no longer have to worry about whether that brownie has pot in it. Thanks to a new rule taking effect Saturday, all marijuana edibles in Colorado must clearly label products containing THC — the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana — with a diamond shaped stamp. The requirement will also force producers to add childproof zippers and lids to their products, as well as warning labels to keep away from children and not to be consumed before driving or while pregnant or nursing. The rule comes after complaints that products look too similar to their non-intoxicating counterparts. Colorado becomes the first legal weed state with this requirement.
