Trump lays out first 100 days as Clinton leads in polls

Donald Trump made news this weekend, but it mostly wasn't the kind he wanted. In a speech Saturday in which he laid out his first 100 days in office, Trump also threatened the women who have accused him of sexual assault, saying, "All of these liars will be sued after the election is over." Trump's proposals included a federal hiring freeze, blocking proposed media mergers, and cancelling President Obama's "unconstitutional" executive orders and creating new restrictions on federal regulations of businesses. According to an Associated Press polling analysis, Hillary Clinton holds a strong lead over Trump in the Electoral College, where she controls enough states to give her the necessary 270 electoral votes to win. This especially-volatile election season also led to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani weighing in Sunday, calling the election a choice between "bad over worse or worse over bad."

AT&T reaches deal to buy Time Warner

In what could be one of the largest deals ever in the telecom-media sector, AT&T agreed Saturday to buy Time Warner for $85.4 billion. AT&T will pay $107.50 per share of Time Warner, whose diverse media portfolio includes HBO, CNN, TNT, TBS, Warner Bros., theme parks, Bleacher Report and a 10% stake in streaming service Hulu. The deal, approved by the boards of both companies, is expected to close before the end of 2017. However, reactions to what the deal would mean for consumers were mixed, with some saying it could reduce choices and others calling it a golden opportunity.

Cubs reach World Series for first time since 1945

It's been 71 years coming for the Chicago Cubs, who clinched their first pennant in seven decades Saturday and are now headed to the World Series. The Cubs defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-run shutout at Wrigley Field, taking the NLCS 4-2. Legends from the Cubs' past in attendance for the historic game rejoiced as they saw their team achieve what seemed for so long to be impossible, and the city celebrated, shutting down streets and packing bars. Chicago will travel to Cleveland to face the Indians Tuesday in Game 1 of the World Series.

U.S. defense secretary visits Iraq amid fight for Mosul

Attempting to convince Iraqi leaders to allow Turkish forces to join in the fight for Mosul against the Islamic State, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter made an unannounced visit to the embattled country over the weekend. Despite Carter's push, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said through a translator that Iraqi, Kurdish and other local forces can handle the battle for the country's second-largest city themselves. Carter said Sunday that the task of retaking the city will ultimately be completed and a stabilization plan must be established.

Penn State upsets No. 2 Ohio State

After a blocked field goal turned into a 60-yard touchdown return, Penn State shocked No. 2 Ohio State in a 24-21 victory Saturday night. The Nittany Lions took their first lead with just under four and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter as Marcus Allen leaped to block Tyler Durbin’s 45-yard field goal attempt and Grant Haley scooped up the loose ball for the game winning score. The Buckeyes snapped their 20-game road winning streak and had not lost to their rival Penn State since 2011. The win also led to Penn State fans taking to the streets where they took down street signs and started fires.

'SNL' debate parody talks 'rigged' election

The presidential debate season is now over, but SNL took some final debate-themed shots at the candidates Saturday in their latest parody. When asked by Tom Hanks as Fox News moderator Chris Wallace how the media makes him look bad, Alec Baldwin's Trump responded, "By taking all of the things I say and all of the things I do and putting them on TV." Not shying away from her "nasty woman" reputation, Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton urged supporters to go to her website to buy a limited-edition nasty woman coffee mug. She also told voters not accept "a complete F" in Trump but instead vote for her — "a stone cold B."
