5 things you need to know Wednesday

Hillary Clinton to publicly concede race

After calling Donald Trump to concede the office she'd sought for so long, Hillary Clinton will speak Wednesday morning to address the nation on the unexpected result of the bitter, contentious, U.S. election. Clinton supporters seemed stricken as they streamed out of the Javits Center in New York on Tuesday night, a steel and glass structure the campaign chose for its symbolism in anticipation that the Democratic nominee would become the first woman to "shatter the highest, hardest glass ceiling." If you didn't stay up to watch the race, here's how the night unfolded.

Your candidate lost. Now what?

The madness of the 2016 election is finally over, and while Trump supporters celebrate, a number of Americans are less pleased with the outcome. Before we get to healing as a nation, we must start healing as individuals. After such a hard-fought campaign, how do we get over the loss? It will take patience, empathy and effort. Paste BN sought out expert advice on how to deal with post-election blues. Here's a 12-step plan of action that will get you through the tunnel of pain and anger and out into the daylight of acceptance. Feel like screaming? Do it! (That's Step 1 of the plan.)

European stocks, U.S. futures trim losses after Trump victory speech

European stock markets and U.S. stock futures trimmed earlier losses but remained lower Wednesday after a victory speech by Donald Trump helped reassure investors. World markets were wildly volatile through election night in the U.S., with stocks, currencies and bonds swinging as investors factored in the reality that the Republican businessman could best Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race. Wall Street had been pricing in a Clinton win. Kathleen Brooks, research director at Forex.com, said that Trump “definitely sounded more presidential than he has done at any stage during the election campaign” during his relatively victory speech, in which he praised Clinton.

Closing arguments set in murder trial for ex-University of Cincinnati officer

Jurors are expected to begin deliberations following closing arguments Wednesday in the murder trial of a former police officer whose attorney said "feared for his life" before fatally shooting an unarmed black man in Ohio. Ray Tensing, who is white, faces charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter after the July 2015 shooting death of Sam DuBose during a traffic stop near the University of Cincinnati campus. DuBose's violent death — which led to Tensing's almost immediate firing from the police department — helped fuel a firestorm of racial tension across the U.S. .
