British Open: Jordan Spieth rallies, wins it
The world’s oldest major golf championship crowned a champion Sunday: Jordan Spieth. After giving up a three-shot lead, Spieth put together an incredible rally to win his first career British Open. The 23-year-old Texan shot a final-round 69 to beat playing partner Matt Kuchar by three shots at Royal Birkdale for his first Claret Jug. Spieth was 12 under for the tournament. 9 immigrants die after being packed into blistering-hot truck
An apparent smuggling operation involving undocumented immigrants came to a tragic conclusion early Sunday morning when emergency responders found eight dead in the back of a semi-trailer at a Walmart in southwest San Antonio; another died later. Dozens of people were in the truck, which didn’t have a working air-conditioning system despite temperatures that topped 100 degrees. Police say it’s a horrific human trafficking case and the driver has been arrested. The tragedy comes amid fewer border arrests.
Trump claims president has 'complete power to pardon'
In his first tweet-o-rama since naming new Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, a combative President Trump unleashed a flurry of 10 tweets Saturday morning, claiming a president has the "complete power to pardon." He also railed against "illegal" leaks from the "Amazon Washington Post," which is owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, called for legal action against Hillary Clinton and former FBI director James Comey and declared ObamaCare "dead." Only one tweet was benign, regarding his planned visit Saturday to Norfolk, Va., to commission the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, where he called for increased military spending. On Sunday, newly minted White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci said Trump has no need to pardon himself or any associates because they have done nothing wrong regarding Russia.
Actor John Heard, 'Home Alone' dad, dies
Actor John Heard, best known for playing Macaulay Culkin's dad in the Home Alone movies, died Friday. Inspector Andrea Whelan with the Santa Clara County, Calif., coroner's office confirmed his death to Paste BN. Heard also starred as a co-worker to Tom Hanks in the 1988 comedy Big and a dirty cop in the first season of HBO's The Sopranos, for which he earned a guest-acting Emmy nomination in 1999.
