5 things you need to know Wednesday

Charlottesville pays its respects to Heather Heyer

A public memorial service for Heather Heyer, who was killed in Saturday's car attack after a protest involving white nationalists in Charlottesville, Va., will be held Wednesday. Heyer, 32, was a legal assistant at a law group in Charlottesville who friends say was outspoken about her views against racism. The memorial service comes a day after President Trump delivered new comments on the deadly attack and again blamed “many sides” for the violence that occurred at the white nationalist rally in the Virginia college town.

Trump enters NAFTA renegotiations

Though President Trump vowed to remove the U.S. from the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA) altogether during his campaign, his administration begins talks of renegotiation Wednesday. The deal, which eliminates most tariffs and encourages the free flow of products in North America, would lead to loss of business and operational disruption if dismantled, supporters claim. Trump, on the other hand, blames NAFTA for the loss of manufacturing jobs and depressed wages in the U.S. The president hopes a renegotiated plan will improve America's trade balance with Canada and Mexico.

Jeff Sessions speaks against sanctuary cities in Miami

Highlighting President Trump’s anti-immigration policies and rhetoric, Attorney General Jeff Sessions will speak in Miami Wednesday on sanctuary cities. His speech will highlight Miami-Dade’s increased cooperation with immigration officials and supposed reversal as a sanctuary city. Trump has been outspokenly against sanctuary cities, leading 33 states to consider legislation cracking down on them. In May, Trump signed an executive order looking to punish sanctuary cities.

'The King' died 40 years ago

The world shook on Aug. 16, 1977 when news broke that the Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, was gone. The poor kid from Tupelo, Miss., whose haunting country gospel voice and gyrating hips made him one of the biggest stars in the world, had been found dead in his bathroom at age of 42. Artists from Bob Dylan to Bono have cited Elvis as their greatest influence. "Before Elvis, there was nothing," John Lennon said. Even 40 years after his death, Presley's music and movies are still going strong, while tourism at his Memphis home, Graceland, and his personal brand are arguably bigger than ever. Here are our picks for Elvis' 40 best songs. Long live the King.
