5 things you need to know Friday

Rose McGowan to kick off Women's Conference in Detroit

In what's being billed as her first major public appearance since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, actress Rose McGowan is scheduled to give the opening remarks at the Women's Conference in Detroit on Friday. McGowan, who received a financial settlement after accusing the Hollywood mogul of raping her, will also participate in a panel called "Fighting for Survivors of Sexual Assault in the Age of Betsy Devos," which will include survivors of sexual assault and members of groups fighting sexual violence. The Women's Conference, which runs through Sunday, is being put on by the group behind January's Women's March in Washington and is expected to draw an estimated 4,000 attendees.

After thrilling Game 2, World Series heads to Houston

If what transpired in Los Angeles is any indication, fans are in for a wild ride in this year's World Series. The Houston Astros evened up the series Wednesday night after a historic barrage of late-inning home runs. If that wasn't enough, Astros manager A.J. Hinch has had to deny being involved in an altercation at a bar in the team's hotel. The World Series shifts to Houston for Game 3, as the Dodgers' call on late-season acquisition Yu Darvish to duel against Lance McCullers on Friday night. Get your wallet: iPhone X pre-orders have begun

Need a new iPhone? Have $999 burning a hole in your pockets? Then you're in luck. Pre-orders for Apple's highly anticipated iPhone X began early Friday morning ahead of the device's release next week. Unlike the iPhone 8 that was released in September, the iPhone X features a brand new display and a radical redesign that ditches the home button for facial recognition. Supply is said to be extremely tight, so if you didn't wait until the wee hours your best bet to score one may be to head to your local Apple or carrier store next week.

Tiger Woods to appear in court

Golfer Tiger Woods is expected to enter a plea bargain Friday as a first-time offender during a hearing on his May DUI arrest. Woods, who completed a drug treatment program in July to help manage his prescription drug usage for back pain, is expected to plead guilty to reckless driving, a less-severe charge than driving under the influence, as part of a Palm Beach County, Fla., diversion program. In the expected diversion program, the golf superstar would spend a year on probation and pay a $250 fine and court costs. According to court records, he was under the influence of prescription drugs and marijuana at the time of his arrest.

Yes, 'Stranger Things' is back!

Halloween may not be until next week but that doesn't mean you can't get the frights started ahead of time. Netflix's hit horror show Stranger Things returns for Season 2 Friday when all nine episodes are released on the streaming service. The new season brings back Hawkins’ courageous crew of misfits and adds a mysterious new member. Is it any good? We think so, though some parts might seem familiar.
