5 things you need to know Tuesday
Trump to issue first presidential turkey pardons
President Trump will spare a pair of birds from being the stars of holiday meals Tuesday with his first Thanksgiving turkey pardons. After the ceremony, the pardoned poultry will start their fowl freedom at Virginia Tech's "Gobblers Rest" exhibit, where they will be cared for by students and veterinarians in the university’s Poultry Science Department. The freed birds can expect to go on to live the good life; just ask 2015's exonerees Honest and Abe — they wouldn't lie. As for Trump, he's flying south to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida for the holiday.
Trying to beat the Thanksgiving traffic? Better get going
If you think you'll beat the holiday traffic by hitting the road Tuesday, think again. In many cities, Tuesday – not Wednesday – is the worst day to travel, according to the transportation analytics firm INRIX. In New York, for example, traffic will be heaviest Tuesday, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. In Los Angeles, the worst gridlock will start earlier and run from 3:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. In Atlanta and Houston, however, Wednesday will be the worst day, INRIX predicts. An estimated 50.9 million Americans will travel 50 miles over the four-day weekend, the most since 2005, according to the AAA travel organization. If you plan on being one of them, here are 11 things you need in your car.
Impeachment proceedings to begin against Zimbabwe's President Mugabe
Zimbabwe’s ruling party is set to begin impeachment proceedings against President Robert Mugabe on Tuesday, after the 93-year-old leader — the oldest in the world — ignored a deadline to resign by noon Monday after 37 years in power. Mugabe and his wife Grace were put under house arrest a week ago by the army, which also took over the state broadcaster and the airport in the capital, Harare. Emmerson Mnangagwa, whose firing as vice president was the catalyst for the army’s takeover, said in a statement Tuesday that Mugabe “must now ACCEPT the will of the people and resign.” Mnangagwa, nicknamed "the Crocodile" is expected to take over from Mugabe as the country's leader.
'Fixer Upper' begins farewell season
It's not goodbye, it's shiplap ya' later. The fifth and final season of Fixer Upper premieres Tuesday (9 p.m. ET/PT), more than four years after HGTV introduced us to the dream-home team of Chip and Joanna Gaines. After 77 redesigns in the Waco, Texas, area, with Chip heading up construction and Joanna in charge of design, the couple announced in September they would push pause on their reality program to "shore up and strengthen" their family and business. The farewell season offers 19 one-hour episodes and includes some famous faces, such as former first lady Laura Bush and athlete Tim Tebow.

Trial comes to close in death of woman shot on S.F. pier
The trial against Jose Ines Garcia Zarate comes to a close Tuesday, more than two years after the killing of Kate Steinle by a man who had been deported five times and wanted for a sixth deportation, sparking a national debate over immigration. Then-presidential candidate Donald Trump seized upon her death to decry America’s loose borders. But national politics did not come up in a month-long trial that featured circumstantial evidence and extensive testimony from ballistics experts.
